KUALA LUMPUR — July 10, 2019:  An amendment to a bill that has been tabled will be presented to the Dewan Rakyat tomorrow to include a provision for automatic voter registration, apart from lowering the age of electoral candidates from 21 years to 18.

During the first reading, only the amendment on lowering the voting age was included.

In the Dewan Rakyat today, Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman tabled a motion to withdraw the bill which was scheduled for second reading.

Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad said at the Parliament lobby he was confident the bill will get the support of at least two-thirds of MPS, the first requirement for any amendment to the Constitution, after the opposition bloc stated its support at a meeting today.

According to Mahathir, the National Security Council (Amendment) Bill will be withdrawn, with Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to provide an explanation. — Bernama
