KUALA LUMPUR — Oct. 7, 2019: The government today re-tabled the Anti-Fake News (Repeal) Bill in the Dewan Rakyat after the one tabled in September last year was not accepted by the Dewan Negara.

The debate is expected to take place at the current session of the Dewan Rakyat which is scheduled to end on December 5.

The Bill seeks to repeal the Anti-Fake News Act was passed during the previous Barisan Nasional administration.

Amongst others the proposal states the provision to repeal the previous law was due to a change in the government policy, in that fake news can be tackled through existing laws like the Penal Code, Printing Presses and Publications Act and the Communications and Multimedia Act. — Bernama
