KUALA LUMPUR – Dec 6, 2016: Gerakan secretary-general Datuk Liang Teck Meng has condemned DAP for working with former prime minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, saying that the DAP has either lost all principles or had misled Malaysians for 22 years.

Liang voiced his criticisms in a press statement today by referring to the winding up speech of DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng at the party’s national conference last Sunday which was attended by Mahathir.

Lim claimed that Umno was resorting to racial sentiments due to desperation, in an apparent reference to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s speech at the Umno general assembly last week.

“Dr. Mahathir had never resorted to such a dirty tactic in all his 22 years leading the party. Mahathir, at the Umno general assemblies in his time, never painted DAP as his number one enemy. He didn’t have to do this as he was able to manage the country and its economy well,” praised Lim of Mahathir.

In response, Liang expressed shock at the DAP’s current position on Mahathir, as the party had been very critical on Mahathir for years.

“I was shocked to read that the DAP now says Mahahir had never resorted to racist dirty tactics and it has now praised him as having managed the country and economy well.

“It is as if the numerous scandals and mismanagement that the DAP had alleged and criticised Mahathir for over 22 years never happened.

“Some of the scandals that the DAP had previously alleged include the BMF, Maminco, IPP cronies, Forex losses of RM30 billion, Perwaja, PKFZ, Ops Lalang, the removal of a lord president and judges and the economic meltdown of 1985 and 1998.”

Liang also noted that Mahathir had previously derided DAP leaders, including Guan Eng’s father Kit Siang.

“Who can forget Mahathir for repeatedly calling Kit Siang the number one racist or when he attacked Najib for being too nice to the Chinese during the 2013 general election?

“Just because Mahathir is now in alliance with them, DAP assumes that all Malaysians have collective amnesia for 22 years,” he wrote.

“If the DAP can suddenly change its stand for something that happened over 22 years just like this, why should Malaysians trust what the DAP says now or in future?

“Either the DAP has no principles and has the spine of a jelly-fish or had misled Malaysians for 22 years. Either way, the DAP must apologise to all Malaysians.”
