KUALA LUMPUR — Jan. 9, 2018: The G25 comprising prominent moderate Malaysians has successfully obtained leave for a judicial review of the ban on a book titled ‘Breaking The Silence: Voices Of Moderation – Islam In A Constitutional Democracy’.
Lawyer Malik Imtiaz Sarwar, who represented five applicants from the group, said High Court Judge Datuk Wira Kamaluddin Md. Said granted the leave today.
After the proceedings in chambers, the respondent represented by senior federal counsel Suzana Atan and Shamsul Bolhassan did not object. The court fixed January 23 for case management.
The five — Datuk Noor Farida Mohd Ariffin, Datuk Zainuddeen Abdul Bahari, Tan Sri Mohd. Sheriff Mohd. Kessim, Datuk Latifah Osman Merican and Dr. Asma Abdullah — filed the application last October and named Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as respondent.
They are seeking a certiorari order to nullify the ban signed by Zahid on July 27, 2017. — Bernama
