Four men claim trial to charge of assaulting minister

JOHOR BARU — Feb. 12, 2020: Four men pleaded not guilty today to assaulting Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman at a dinner in Ulu Tiram last month.

Norhanizam Ithnain, 38; Mohd. Iskandar Masindra Rasidi, 37; Mohd. Iskandar Afiq Razak, 26, and Ezzul Emran Abdul Rahim, 23, were accused of assaulting Syed Saddiq with the intention of dishonouring him at the Savanah Hill Resort campsite on January 31.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Faizal Noorhadi asked for bail to be set at RM15,000 each, however, in mitigation lawyer Izzat Muhar who represents all the accused, requested for lower bail as his clients had been cooperating with the police during the investigation.

Mohd Zaki set bail at RM7,000 with one surety each. All the accused were ordered to report to the Seri Alam District Police headquarters every month.

The magistrate fixed March 15 for remention of the case.

Counsel Shufri Samad held a watching brief for Pribumi Bersatu.

Syed Saddiq, who was allegedly assaulted during the party’s gathering in Ulu Tiram had since blamed the incident on Umno, which leaders had instead said the fracas was the result of Pribumi Bersatu’s internal squabbles
