PUTRAJAYA — Feb. 28, 2019: Former chief justice Tun Ariffin Zakaria will lead the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on the issues of human trafficking and mass graves in Wang Kelian, Perlis, three years ago.
Ariffin will be assisted by former federal police chief Tan Sri Norian Mai and six other members, the appointments pf which have been consented to by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will meet all the members next week to present their appointment letters.
“From there, they can start their investigations. We are giving them six months to come out with a report,” said Muhyiddin.
In May 2015, police announced the discovery of graves with 106 skeletal remains believed to be of Rohingyas, and 28 human trafficking camps in Wang Kelian. The 139 graves, some of them empty, were atop a hill hundreds of metres high. — Bernama
