KUALA LUMPUR — December 2, 2016: Malaysia has made history, with the goal scored beyond the laws
of physics shortlisted in the top three for FIFA’s Puskas Award 2015/2016.

According to the world governing body’s website, Fifa.com, besides the goal scored by Penang striker Mohd. Faiz
Subri, the others shortlisted were scored by Johnath Marlone from Brazil and Venezuelan Daniuska Rodriguez, a female player from Venezuela. There were seven other goals from an earlier shorlist.

Faiz scored the goal on last February 16 during the Penang versus Pahang match in the Super League.

The goal by Marlone was scored in the Corinthians-Cobresal game in April and the one by Rodriguez in March when Venezuela played Colombia in the South American U-17 Women’s Championship.

Voting will close on January 9, with the winner announced and presented with the award later that day in Zurich.

As of 9.30pm today, the video of Faiz’s goal had attracted 1,384,112 viewers, leaving spectacular goals scored by even Barcelona superstars Lionel Messi and Neymar way behind.

The three goals in the final shortlist will go through a second round of voting, with all votes from the first round to be added.
