Facebooker jailed for over 10 years for insulting Islam

KUALA LUMPUR — March 9, 2019: A Facebooker who insulted Islam and Prophet Muhammad has been jailed for 10 years and 10 months after he pleaded guilty.

The owner of Facebook account AYEA YEA was charged in Kuching to 10 charges under the Penal Code and Communications and Multimedia Act. He will have to serve the sentences consecutively, according to a Bernama report quoting a statement from Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun.

Also charged was the owner of Twitter account @ ALVINCHOW333 who pleaded not guilty to eight charges while Facebook account owner Danny A’antonio Jr. was charged here to two charges which he pleaded not guilty of.

Facebook account owner YAZID KONG, who was charged in the same court, pleaded guilty and will know his fate on March 11.

In view of these cases, Fuzi has reminded the public to not abuse social media or communication networks by uploading or sharing any form of provocation that could touch on religious and racial sensitivities. — Bernama
