Eleven killed after bus plunged into drain

SEPANG — April 8, 2019: Ten foreigners on their way to work were killed when a bus they were in plunged into a drain near the MASKargo area here last night. Also killed was the driver, a local.

Six, including the driver, died at the scene while the others succumbed to their injuries while being treated at the Serdang Hospital and Putrajaya Hospital.

“It’s the first fatal crash to occur at the place. It is not a dangerous area and the weather was also fine last night,” said KLIA district police chief ACP Zulkifli Adamshah.

The bus which was carrying 43 passengers plunged four metres into a 20-metre deep drain. When firemen arrived, they found everyone trapped in the bus.

Zulkifli said preliminary investigation found that the bus was carrying 43 MASKargo contract workers, all foreigners, from their hostel in Nilai.

Police will investigate to determine why the bus was not heading towards the MASKargo building but instead to the engineering building or the hangar.

Manpower agency Mutiara Kayamas Sdn. Bhd. confirmed that all 44 people were its employees. Its human resource executive Nur Nadiah Wahab said the company will all necessary assistance. — Bernama
