Ekuinas’ ILTIZAM to help entrepreneurs, students, community

KUALA LUMPUR – February 25, 2016: Ekuiti Nasional Berhad (Ekuinas), inspired from the willpower and determination to work towards impactful transformation had chosen the brand name ‘ILTIZAM’ for its corporate social responsibility (CSR) program, .

Ekuinas chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Abdul Rahman Ahmad said ILTIZAM aims to empower Bumiputera community across three main pillars which are entrepreneurship, education and community.

He said through its Entrepreneur Mentorship Program, the company will help micro and small businesses which do not yet fit Ekuinas’ investment criteria of medium-sized companies, to achieve their full potential.

Rahman said, under the education pillar, Ekuinas aims to support young Malaysians with potential to excel through its Education Empowerment Program.

He added that under the community pillar, ILTIZAM houses philanthropic initiatives in its Community Enrichment Program, to help the disadvantaged in a sustainable way while promoting and preserving local arts, culture and heritage.

“All of the activities should reflect the company’s core business agenda, and create sustainable and positive impact to both entrepreneurs and society,” he added.

The launching ceremony of ILTIZAM today at Tuanku Bainun Children Creative Centre at Taman Tun Dr Ismail here was graced by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Abdul Wahid Omar, who later shared his insights as encouragement with over 100 students and representatives of non-governmental organisations who were present.

In a heartfelt session, Wahid shared his personal experiences of growing up in a needy family, while stressing on the importance of perseverance and being determined in achieving dreams.

“I was the ninth of eleven siblings, born in a poor family in Johor Baru.

“My very own story of ‘iltizam’ (commitment) is to take my family out of poverty and to repay all of the hardwork, contributions and sacrifices made by my parents.

“For me, it is important for all to persevere and work hard… If you ever fail, pick yourself up, don’t be afraid to reach out to anyone for help, and use the opportunity given at best” he added.

Wahid said, the choosing of ‘ILTIZAM’ as a brand name was apt and in line with the Ekuinas’ efforts to help those in need.

He added that the value of commitment shown by the entrepreneurs enrolled in Ekuinas’ entrepreneurial program.

Over the last five years, Ekuinas has allocated more than RM13 million for its CSR activities.

Rahman had earlier said that Ekuinas hopes to further invest an additional RM18 million over the next three years under ILTIZAM’s programs.
