PUTRAJAYA — Dec. 28, 2017: The Election Commission is advising people to ignore a viral message on social media on the dissolution of parliament and the 14th general elections.

This is because parliament could only be dissolved with the consent of the King on the advice of the prime minister.

EC chairman Tan Sri Mohd. Hashim Abdullah pointed out in a statement today that the dates in the message do not make sense.

The message mentions this January 11 as the date for the dissolution of parliament and March 11 and 25 as the dates for nomination and polling respectively for GE14.

Hashim said this is unreasonable because the period between the purported dissolution of parliament and polling exceeds the 60-day limit within which a general election must be held. — Bernama
