LUMUT, May 11 2020: A man, who was scolded by his wife for being drunk allegedly rammed his four-wheel-drive vehicle into a neighbour’s house before setting his own on fire last night.
Manjung district police chief ACP Nor Omar Sappi said police are now searching for the man, who fled the scene of the incident at Taman Hijau, Sitiawan near here,
He said firefighters put out the fire that broke out about 11.45pm and no casualties were reported.
“Based on the wife’s statement, the suspect, who is in his 40s was very drunk when he came home and was making noise while the neighbours were asleep.
“Upset at being rebuked, the suspect then scolded his wife. He rammed his car, a Nissan X-Trail, into a neighbour’s house before entering his own house, set it on fire and escaped through the back door, ” said Nor Omar in a statement.
Almost half of the furniture and interior of the house was destroyed and the estimated loss was RM18,000.
Nor Omar said police also found a rusty and slightly burned fake pistol in one of the rooms and further checks revealed that the suspect has a record of five drug offences.
