Mahathir resigns from Proton, few other outfits


KUALA LUMPUR – March 31, 2016: Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has resigned as chairman of the national car manufacturer, Proton Holdings.

A media release posted in his blog stated that the resignation was effective from yesterday (March 30).

Dr Mahathir’s resignation  letter was sent to DRB-Hicom Bhd group managing director Datuk Seri Syed Faisal Albar on the same day.

According to the media release, Dr Mahathir has also relinquished his post as the chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP), effective yesterday.

His resignation was communicated to UTP rector Datuk Abdul Rahim Hashim.

In the same statement, it was made known that Dr Mahathir has also stepped down as the advisor to two development authorities, the Langkawi Development Authority (Lada) and Tioman Island Development Authority (Tida).

“The chief secretary to the government has been informed of these resignations” reads the statement.
