KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 14 2018 : Combining their new media technologies skill with creativity, several invited artists have produced artworks that are currently on display at Galeri Petronas in the Liberating Potentials: Manisfestation of Digital Shift Exhibition.
New media artist, Haris Abadi, 30, whose loop video anime work entitled “Pohon” was inspired by the wayang kulit, said: “At this exhibition, we can see artists incorporating cultural elements in their digital work, which shows that no matter what the medium, the most important thing is the cultural character is preserved.”
“Tun Dr M: Reviving The Legacy” by Intan Natasha Abdul Karim, 25, and four friends from Universiti Teknologi MARA’s (UiTM) Faculty of Art and Design, is a multimedia tribute to the elder statesman.
“It’s thrilling because we’re from five different departments and have combined our ideas and energy for this piece. It’s been worth it because we’ve not just presented the piece in a new form but we’re sharing it with visitors to the exhibition,” she said.
Petronas Gallery and Awards Group Strategic Communications operations head, Dzalina Manan, said: “We are a place and platform for emerging artists. Through digital means, the canvas for art has become infinite in ways limited only by imagination.”
Entry to the exhibition which ends Jan 6, 2019 and is open from 10am-8pm, is free.
The artists featured mainly come from UiTM, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) and Multimedia University (MMU). – Bernama
