KUALA LUMPUR — May 22, 2020: A DAP central committee member is blaming former prime minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad for the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan federal ruling coalition last February.
According to Ronnie Liu, Pakatan would have remained in power if Mahathir had handed over the government post to PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as promised before the elections in May 2018.
Liu is also of the view that Pakatan would not have had any problem if Mahathir had not resigned as advised by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and if he had not proposed a unity government.
“In the end, the Pakatan government fell because of a power grab by those in Tun M’s party,” he said, referring to Pribumi Bersatu, of which Mahathir was the chairman.
In a post at Facebook Liu also pointed out that it was Pribumi Bersatu which had rejected the suggestion to have anti-hopping laws which would have prevented the collapse of the Pakatan governments in Johor, Melaka, Perak and Kedah.
“Tun M is the reason for the fall of PH and he has yet to admit his mistake and apologise to the people.”
Pribumi Bersatupulled out of Pakatan after Mahathir resigned as prime minister.
This triggered a crisis which resulted in the king appointing Pribumi Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister under the Perikatan Nasional coalition.
