KANGAR,  Sept 5 2018 : The Congress of Unions of Employees in Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs)  has called on the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government to reconsider giving the additional salary increment promised to civil servants by the previous government.

Its president, Datuk Azih Muda said the reason being that majority of the civil servants in the cities and big towns in the Klang Valley, Johor and Selangor, were being burdened with the high living cost.

“The government should give priority to the welfare of civil servants  for their huge contribution to the country’s development and progress,” he told reporters after a courtesy call on Perlis Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man at the Menteri Besar’s office here yesterday.

Prior to this, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was reported to have said that the government was not obliged to fulfil the pledges made by the previous administration.

The previous Barisan Nasional government had promised the 1.6 million government employees of another increment on July 1 beyond their annual annual salary increment. – Bernama
