KUALA LUMPUR — October 4, 2017: An Umno Youth leader has slammed a vocal government critic for trying to gain cheap publicity by accusing the prime minister 0f trying to bribe the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.
The statement by Federal Territories Umno Youth chief Datuk Mohd. Razlan Rafii follows a report lodged with the agency by former Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia member Datuk Khairuddin Abu Hassan alleging that Datuk Seri Najib Razak was trying to bribe the commission by allocating RM5 million for its Yayasan Prihatin.
“The prime minister did not bribe MACC officers as the allocation was meant to encourage them in their battle against corruption.”
“Why is Khairuddin being so negative? He should be happy now that MACC has more resources to combat corruption,” said Razlan.
He also pointed out that the allocation was not given personally by Najib but was from the government.
Khairuddin, in his report, said the MACC cannot receive such monetary rewards from any party, including the prime minister.
