PUTRAJAYA, May 21 2020: Those attempting to cross state borders will from now on be issued compounds instead of just being asked to turn back.

Senior Minister for Security Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who issued the warning at his daily briefing here today said many were still trying to travel back to their hometown to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri this weekend, putting the country at risk of another Covid-19 outbreak.

He gave an example of some 1,300 people who had queued up at the Kuantan police headquarters to seek permission to cross state borders.

“We have decided that interstate travel will not be allowed at all. There is no need to ask for police permission because the police will not allow it,” he said.

He added that 2,412 drivers had attempted to cross state borders yesterday in order to return to their home towns in time for Hari Raya.
