BRASILIA — July 7, 2020: Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro has confirmed testing positive for the coronavirus but said he was feeling perfectly well and insisted he only had mild symptoms.

Thus far he has repeatedly ignored the science and all advice from health experts like refusing to wear a mask and not physically distancing in a crowd and recently even went to the extent of describing the virus as a little flu.

Statistics with the World Health Organisation puts Brazil’s death toll from Covid-19 at beyond 66,000 and total cases at at least 1,644,000. It is second behind the United States in the number of cases.

Bolsonaro told a television interview that the test “has come out and it’s positive”, adding that he was taking hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin to treat the illness.

Hydroxychloroquine is an anti-malaria medication while azithromycin is an antibiotic that can be used to treat pneumonia.

Bolsonaro said on Monday that he had taken a test and told CNN Brazil that he had also taken an X-ray of his lungs as a precaution. The three tests he took previously were negative/
