Covid-19: New cases up three-fold; most students back from Indonesia

PUTRAJAYA — April 29, 2020: The number of new cases jumped by 63 from the previous day’s 31 to make a total of 94 in the last 24 hours, with most involving returning students from a religious centre in east Jawa.

The overall total of cases in the country is now 5,945, of whom 4,087 have recovered, including 55 in the last 24 hours. The percentage of recovery is 68.75%.

Of those being treated, 40 are in intensive care, with 18 on ventilators.

Health director-general Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah told reporters today that the returnees from Indonesia were among the 24,000 brought home from several countries since April 3.

All returnees are required to be put under quarantine for 14 days. So far 226 returnees have tested positive.
