KUALA LUMPUR — March 22, 2020: Singapore today expressed appreciation to Malaysia for evacuating its citizens from Iran, which is among the countries badly hit by the pandemic.
Its Foreign Affairs Ministry in a statement thanked the Malaysian government and its embassy in Tehran for accepting its request for help.
Eight Singaporeans were among the mostly Malaysian evacuees who arrived here from Tehran this morning on a special flight.
The Singaporeans are now under a 14-day quarantine here, as required by the health authorities before allowed to proceed home.
Malaysia’s National Disaster Management Agency said the AirAsia aircraft landed at the KL International Airport at 6.34am carrying also 46 Malaysians and an Indonesian.
Another group of 212 Malaysians stranded in Tashkent also arrived at KLIA last night, courtesy of a flight sponsored by the Uzbek government. The same aircraft was then used to ferry home some 200 Uzbeks who were stranded here.
