Covid-19: Over 2,500 people turned back while trying to cross states

PUTRAJAYA — May 22, 2020: People driving 2,539 vehicles were told to turn back by the police while attempting inter-state travel yesterday.

Melaka had the highest number of vehicles and motorists that attempted inter-state travel with 886, followed by Perak (362) and Penang (284).

According to Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, police also detained 64 persons and remanded 40 for going against the standard operating procedures (SOPs). Another 24 were issued compounds for defying the SOPs.

A total of 154 roadblocks were put up nationwide yesterday and 264,280 vehicles checked. Those who do manage to get to their hometowns could still be penalised when they return to the city.
