PUTRAJAYA — April 19, 2020: A new cluster comprising 43 students returning from Indonesia on April 16 has been detected. The group was from the red zone of Temboro of Magetan district in East Java.

Thirty-four are being quarantined in Melaka and nine in Kuala Lumpur.

Health director-general Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah also said today the ministry will soon conduct clinical trials using the Remdesivir anti-viral drug to treat patients.

Those who are positive but do not show any symptoms will most probably be excluded.

“We will look at those who are showing symptoms. We will look at patients in the third category who have inflammation but don’t require oxygen, category four patients who have inflammation in the lungs and require oxygen and those in category five, who come to hospital in the late stages and require ventilators.”

According to Noor Hisham, nine hospitals which are taking part in the World Health Organisation’s Solidarity Trial are ready to start recruiting participants from among patients who fulfill the criteria.

Due to the importance of the trial, the Medical Research and Ethics Committee and National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency approved the research protocols and clinical trial import licence for Remdesivir in four working days.
