Covid-19: New cases hit 78; 40 were foreigners

PUTRAJAYA — May 22, 2020: The number of new cases in the last 24 hours jumped significantly to 78, of which 40 involved foreigners.

The latest infestions bring the total number of cases in Malaysia to 7,137, with one new death taking the total to 115.

Of the 78 cases, 25 were imported. Twenty-five of the cases involving foreigners were detected at the Bukit Jalil Immigration depot. The previous day, 35 cases were reported at the depot.

Health director-general Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said today another 63 patients had been discharged, which means 5,859 recoveries or 82.1%.

Nine patients are in intensive care, with seven on ventilators.

The new death was a 65-year-old man who had diabetes, hypertension and kidney disease. He was admitted to hospital on April 3.
