Covid-19: New cases fall to a low 30; one new death

The Selayang wholesale market area had 20 new cases in the 24 hours leading into May 5.

PUTRAJAYA — May 5, 2020: The number of new cases in the last 24 hours fell to a low 30 to bring the country’s total cases to 6,383, but all the latest cases were local transmissions.

In the same period 83 patients were discharged, which means a total of 4,567 recoveries or 71.55%.

Twenty-four patients are in intensive care, with only eight on ventilators.

Health director-general Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said today that 20 of the new cases were detected from the cluster in the northern part of the capital as well as the neighbourhoods surrounding the Selayang wholesale market.

One was from outside the area which had been subjected to the enhanced movement control order on April 20.

The latest fatality — the country’s 106th, was a 47-year-old Malaysian man who was admitted to a private hospital on March 15 and then transferred to the Sungai Buloh Hospital after testing positive.
