PUTRAJAYA — May 21, 2020: The Health Ministry is ramping up contact-tracing in Kelantan, Kedah and Terengganu after new cases were found in places that were green zones for some time.
Among those tested were 30 family members of a woman who tested positive in Kelantan. While 20 were confirmed negative, the results for the rest are being awaited.
The woman’s close contacts in Kelantan and Ampang are also being traced, said Health director-general Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said today.
The woman had travelled to Kuala Krai in Kelantan with the intention of giving birth.
Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob also said that the woman had visited several places to meet up with friends and relatives. It was only after she had gone to a maternity clinic that she was tested and found to be positive for Covid-19.
The northern states, Kelantan and Terengganu were declared green zones after no new cases were reported for a prolonged period.
In the last 24 hours the number of new cases in the country went up to 50 from 31 the previous day, which makes it 7,059 cases for the country overall.
Thirty-four of the new cases involved 34 detainees at the Bukit Jalil Immigration depot who have been there since before the movement control order was imposed on March 18.
A further 90 patients have been discharged to bring the total recoveries to 5,796 or 82.1%.
