PUTRAJAYA — May 19, 2020: The Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Ministry has submitted 19 programmes and initiatives to the Finance Ministry for special attention to assist small Malaysian businesses affected by the pandemic.

At a meeting with the finance ministry, Minister Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar asked his finance counterpart to consider an application for additional funding for Tekun Nasional and several other agencies.

Citing a report by the Malaysian Institute of Economic Research, Wan Junaidi said an estimated 2.4 million Malaysians are expected to lose their jobs due to Covid-19.

“Not only does this epidemic affect the health and lives of Malaysians but it also has a direct impact on almost all types of occupations. Clearly, workers are facing a huge challenge,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Wan Junaidi spoke about how limited business opportunities have forced employers to consider options to reduce operating costs.

He reminded Malaysians to unite to fight the disease and support all efforts to revitalise the economy.
