KUALA LUMPUR, May 2 2020: Rare earths producer Lynas Corp. will reopen its processing plant on Monday as Malaysia eases restrictions imposed since March to curb the spread of Covid-19.
Lynas, which is the largest producer of rare earths outside China, made the decision after the government decided to allow the majority of economic sectors to resume operations.
The Lynas’ plant in Gebeng, near Kuantan has been closed since late March due to the restrictions on movement and non-essential business.
The company had applied for an exemption, or “critical industry” status, pointing to its products as essential to the supply chains of key industries in the country, including medical devices.
Lynas said it will provide more information about the restart of the plant when it resumes operations on Monday.
