Covid-19: Indonesia’s death toll at 1,520

JAKARTA, May 30 2020: Indonesia reported 24 Covid-19 deaths yesterday, bringing its death toll to 1,520 while its number of infections surpassed 25,000.

Indonesian government spokesman on Covid-19 matters, Achmad Yurianto said 678 new positive cases were reported yesterday.

He said the total number of positive cases now strands at 25,216, while 12,499 patients are still under Covid-19 monitoring.

Jakarta has the highest number deaths so far at 509 cases.

Elsewhere, Brazil’s death toll reached 27,878 yesterday, making it the country with the fifth-highest number of fatalities.

The country, which has now been regarded as the Covid-19 epicenter of South America recorded 1,124 deaths and 26,928 new cases in the last 24 hours.

The top four countries leading in the number of Covid-19 deaths are United States, Britain, Italy and France.

Reports from the Middle East were also not encouraging with Iran announcing its highest number of new Covid-19 infections in nearly two months.

Iranian health ministry spokesman Kianoush Jahanpour said 2,819 new cases were confirmed in the past 24 hours, bringing the overall total to 146,668.

So far, the government has reimposed a lockdown on the Khuzestan province which borders with Iraq in the southwest.

Jahanpour said the provinces of Khorasan Razavi, east and west Azerbaijan, Lorestan, Kurdistan, Kermanshah, Hormozgan and Mazandaran are also now in critical situation.
