Covid-19: Rules for MCO eased but still no inter-state travel or large gatherings

PUTRAJAYA — May 1, 2020: Some conditions under the movement control order (MCO) imposed since March 18 will be relaxed from Monday, including for businesses and to allow people cooped up at home in the last several weeks to enjoy outdoor activities deemed low risks.

Outdoor activities which do not involve body contact and large gatherings of people will be allowed, including sports like badminton or tennis.

Also allowed are jogging, cycling and golf in small groups of less than 10 people, on condition that social distancing is observed and there is no body contact.

People may may also eat at restaurants but operators must enforce distancing.

In announcing the decision today, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin however stressed that all religious, sports and recreational activities involving large gatherings continue to be banned.

So too inter-state travel, including to customary Hari Raya balik kampung (return to hometowns).

All schools and higher institutions remain closed.
