KUALA LUMPUR — July 23, 2020: The use of face masks in public will be compulsory from August 1 and that includes when using public transport.

People can use home-made masks as long as these follow the specifications set by the World Health Organisation.

Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said at a press conference today that those who fail to comply will either be compounded or taken to court.

Ismail also said that many restaurants and hawker stalls have failed to enforce physical distancing by patrons, which can lead to infections, and pointed out to the restaurant cluster in Brickfields.

Due to this police will monitor restaurants nation-wide and offenders face possible closure.
