PUTRAJAYA — April 5, 2020: After yesterday’s drop in the number of cases from the previous day by 67 or 44.66%, it was the reverse today when there was an increase of 29 cases from yesterday’s, or 19.33%.
With today’s number, the overall total of cases in the country is 3,662. Of the new cases, 46 were linked to the tabligh gathering in Seri Petaling.
The good news is 90 more patients recovered, bringing the total to 1,005 or 27.44%.
The number of fatalities however went up to 61 when four more were reported in the last 24 hours.
According to Health director-general Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah, 99 patients are in intensive care, with 48 needing ventilators.
One of the latest deaths was that of a 72-year-old Malaysian man who had diabetes and high blood pressure. He was a close contact of a positive case.
The other was a 68-year-old local man who also had diabetes, while another in Sarawak was a 53-year-old Malaysian man. The last fatality reported today was a 66-year-old man with a history of diabetes, high blood pressure and kidney disease.
The health ministry is also waiting guidelines from the World Health Organisation on whether people need to wear face masks when going out but all health workers are advised to wear them when facing the public.
