KUALA LUMPUR — March 16, 2020: All activities at mosques, including Friday prayers, will be suspended for 10 days beginning tomorrow, as per a decree by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

All mosque and surau committees are also advised to conduct cleaning and sanitising as a precautionary measure.

According to Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Seri Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri, the 10-day period is subject to the advice of the Health Ministry.

In the event of death due to Covid-19, the handling of the body will be accorded certain allowances.

The body can be handled via tayammum (dry ritual purification) on the surface of the body bag or wrap that covers the body, in accordance with a previous decision by the Fatwa Committee in 2015.

But both matters are subject to the purview of the relevant Islamic bodies in each state while being applicable to the Federal Territories because of the decree.
