KUALA LUMPUR — Jan. 9, 2020: The courts have allowed the forfeiture of RM3,479,300.18 by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission from Pahang Umno and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS).
The money had been frozen by MACC last year for alleged links to the 1Malaysia Development Berhad case.
Justice Muhammad Jamil Hussin and judicial commissioner Ahmad Shahrir Mohd. Salleh, presiding in two courts, agreed that the money was proceeds from unlawful activities.
Jamil, who presided the case involving Pahang Umno, said the party had failed to prove that it owned the RM2,479,300.18 and that there was no third party having interest that came forward to claim it.
Shahrir allowed the application to forfeit the RM1mil from PBRS on grounds that the applicant had been able to also prove that the money was proceeds from unlawful activities.
