KUALA LUMPUR — November 5, 2015: The contracts of Mara Incorporated chairman Datuk Mohammad Lan Allani and its chief executive officer Datuk Abd. Halim A. Rahim have not been extended.

Both were temporarily relieved of their duties last July pending investigations into the controversial purchase of Dudley International House in Melbourne.

Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob told reporters today that this was a  recommendation of Mara’s interim internal audit report.

“We ended the CEO’s contract on October 1 while the chairman’s contract which is supposed to expire next year has been terminated early since the news has spread.”

Mara Inc., the investment arm of Mara, was struck with controversy following a report by Australian newspaper  The Age which claimed that it had bought the five-storey building at an inflated price.

“We have not appointed the new chairman and CEO yet. We have identified them but are waiting for the Mara council meeting (this Sunday) to endorse the appointments,” said Ismail. — Bernama
