KUALA LUMPUR, April 19 (Bernama) -- Telekom Malaysia Bhd was named the Best Broadband Carrier at the 15th Annual Telecom Asia Awards, the region's longest-running and most prestigious telecoms industry awards, in Bangkok yesterday.
In a statement today, chairman of the judging panel Per Dahlberg said the awards recognise achievement and leadership in Asian telecommunications, with an emphasis on innovation and financial performance.
"The telecoms industry in Asia is facing considerable challenges. With a slowdown in revenue growth and tighter margins, operators have to improve efficiency and control costs within their businesses while creating innovative, non-price advantages over the competition," said Dahlberg.
Meanwhile, Singapore Telecommunications Ltd (Sing Tel) won the Best Asian Telecom Carrier award and SK Telecom Co, South Korea's largest mobile-phone operator, received the Best Mobile Carrier award.
Telecom Asia is Asia's largest regional telecoms publishing group, and publishes the magazine Telecom Asia, aimed at telecommunications professionals around the region. Combined, these titles serve more than 100,000 subscribers.
