Harakah Daily, Hassan Ali or Nik Aziz: Who is telling the truth?
KUALA LUMPUR: Harakah Daily, in defending their report that is disputed by Selangor Pas leader Datuk Hassan Ali, said it was based on an interview with Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat.
Chief editor of the Pas newsletter Zulkifli Sulong said: “Our reporter merely reported what Nik Aziz said. Nik Aziz was the one who said Hassan had apologised during the meeting they had recently."
“I think it is better for people to clarify with Nik Aziz instead. We did not know what transpired during the meeting between him and Hassan."
The news report in dispute which was published by Harakah on Dec 28, quoted Nik Aziz as saying that Hassan, the Gombak Setia state assemblyman had apologised over his statements against the party recently.
The report headlined “Nik Aziz bersyukur masalah selesai” (Nik Aziz is relieved the problem is over) quoted the Kelantan Menteri Besar as saying that Hassan had withdrawn statements he made against the party and apologised over the matter during the meeting held between him, Hassan and former Pas deputy president Nasharuddin Mat Isa at his official residence in Kota Baru, Kelantan.
Others present during the meeting held at Nik Aziz's official residence were Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and deputy spiritual leader Datuk Harun Din
Hassan in a press statement on Wednesday denied he had apologised during the meeting with Nik Aziz.
His statement read: “Reports in the Harakah Daily and and other media that I was in Kota Baru was to apologise to the party leadership is untrue.
“I am upset with the report by Harakah Daily even though they have been reminded not to spin facts which will create doubts and disunity among Pas members,” he added.
Hassan said he was invited to attend a meeting with Nik Aziz as well as Nasharudin, Abdul Hadi and Harun Din and it was aimed at discussing various party matters including strategies for the next general election.
Hassan also said the issue of him going to Kota Baru to apologise did not arise as he had in fact already apologised to Pas during a press conference at his house on Dec 24.
The latest spat had led to a blog posting at Just Read, stating the latest incident in Pas would only create further confusion between its members and the media.
The posting read: “Now, who spoke the truth here? It’s unbecoming of Nik Aziz to lie if he did. And who are confused? Of course Pas members and the media!”
"Even their members are confused between the truth and lies, and between the fool and wise."
The posting added the recent alleged misreporting by Harakah Daily would only create further confusion between truth and lies for Pas.
To further proof that there was no misreporting on the part of Harakah Daily, Zulkifli said a video of Nik Aziz making the statement on Hassan had been uploaded on You Tube.
Apart from that, Harakah Daily had also published on their website the full transcript of what Nik Aziz said to the reporters.
“Of course we stand by our story. We did not spin or twist anyone’s statement just to suit our fancy. We report everything as it is,” Zulkifli added.
However, blogger Din Turtle accused Harakah Daily for spinning facts by trying to portray Hassan as being remorseful for the criticism he had made against Pas in its report.
