Champions Spain crashes out of World Cup

RIO DE JANEIRO, June 18 — 2014: Defending champions Spain crashed out of the World Cup today after losing 2-0 to Chile in their second defeat in five days.


Chile’s victory — through goals from Eduardo Vargas and Charles Arranguiz — took them and the Netherlands through to the last 16 from Group B.


The defeat was also the first time Spain had lost two on the trot in six years.
