Bursa continues uptrend as IHH, Petronas Chemicals lead buying interest

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 2 2020 : Bursa Malaysia continued its uptrend at mid-morning on persistent buying interest in selective heavyweights led by IHH and Petronas Chemicals.

At 11.05 am, the key index advanced 6.99 points to 1,595.75 from Tuesday’s close of 1,588.76, after opening at 1,590.98.

The market was closed yesterday for New Year.

Market breadth remained positive, with gainers beating losers 430 to 249, while 342 counters remained unchanged, 924 untraded and 13 others suspended.   

Turnover amounted to 1.14 billion shares worth RM568.83 million.

Among heavyweights,  IHH and Petronas Chemicals jumped eight sen each to RM5.55 and RM7.43 respectively, CIMB was six sen higher at RM5.21, KLK improved 40 sen to RM25.20 while Maxis added five sen to RM5.37.

The actives included Vivocom and Sapura Energy which bagged half-a- sen each to two sen and 27.5 sen respectively, Bright Packaging increased 10 sen to 48.5 sen, TDM perked one sen to 43 sen and Bumi Armada added two sen to 55 sen.

Top gainer,  Carlsberg rose 48 sen to RM29.70 while top loser Nestle dipped RM1.40 to RM145.60.

The FBM Emas Index strengthened 49.16 points to 11,372.65 and the FBM Emas Shariah Index was 50.07 points higher at 11,997.99. 

The FBMT 100 Index increased 46.76 points to 11,161.31, the FBM 70 accumulated 51.14 points to 14,257.95 and the FBM Ace was 87.42 points better at 5,314.01.

Sector-wise, the Industrial Products and Services Index ticked up 1.34 points to 154.74, the Financial Services Index improved 42.19 points to 15,506.36 and the Plantation Index advanced 42.80 points to 7,776.17. – Bernama
