BEAUFORT — Jan. 15, 2020: Sabah Umno chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin has dismissed reports of party members quitting to join Warisan as a political gimmick.
On the contrary he claims that the membership has in fact been increasing slowly.
Bung Mokhtar further claimed that Barisan Nasional has so far secured almost half of the over 29,000 registered voters in Kimanis for the by-election on Saturday.
He spoke at a press conference yesterday after accepting applications from some Warisan members to join Umno. The group was led by former Sri Serbang Warisan division chief Pengiran Yusuf Pengiran Abdullah.
According to Yusuf, the introduction of the Sabah Temporary Pass was one reason for the defection.
Some 48 Warisan members from the Kuala Pus voting centre in Bongawan have also quit to join Umno.
The by-election will see a straight fight between BN and Warisan.
