KUANTAN — June 15, 2017: Two Royal Malaysian Air Force pilots were found dead today in a swamp forest in Chukai, Kemaman, after the Hawk 108 fighter jet they were flying went missing shortly after taking off from the airbase here.

The two are Major Hasri Zahari, 31, and Major Yazmi Mohamed Yusof, 39, who were with the No. 6 Squadron at the Labuan base and had 13 and 19 years of experience respectively.

Chief of Air Force Datuk Seri Affendi Buang told a press conference that the bodies were found with the parachutes still attached to them.

The aircraft had taken off at 11 am and contact was lost 30 minutes later. The jet had yet to be found five hours later.

The RMAF has temporarily grounded the Hawk jets pending an investigation, for which a team has been appointed.  — Bernama
