KUALA LUMPUR – July 28, 2016: The police report lodged by Umno Youth deputy chief Khairul Azwan Harun has caused quite a stir in the blogosphere with mixed reactions from several prominent bloggers.
In the report made on Tuesday, Khairul Azwan has named former Bank Negara Malaysia governor Tan Sri Zeti Akhtar Aziz, former Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail, and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed in a plot to topple Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
The Umno Youth vice-chief, who is popularly known as Azwan Bro reportedly said he has valid reasons to believe that these officials had provided confidential information to the agencies in the United States (US), including the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Anonymous pro-Najib blogger known as ‘A Voice’ in a blog posting had questioned the move by Khairul Azwan.
The blogger wrote, the issues related to the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) have been overly politicised by many, and this include the remarks made by Khairul Azwan.
“He (Khairul Azwan) claimed that they conspired to topple PM. Why is he repeating the same conspiracy theory as before?
“It is not a line that the public will buy into after the US’ Department of Justice files are made public. If there is any truth, it takes time to do so. Not when the iron is still hot,” the blogger added.
The blogger also concurred that such a move will cause a repercussion that could further destabilise the government in future, while it has put Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin in a fix.
Prominent blogger Helen Ang, on the other hand queried Khairy’s silence on the matter.
“Of late, KJ (Khairy) has been keeping a low profile. Rather than actively defending the number one (Najib) like the others do, he has instead distanced Umno Youth from the party president, when traditionally, it is the wing that should take up the cudgels,” Helen wrote.
The blogger was of the opinion that Khairul Azwan’s move is “tantamount to a declaration of civil war.”
He asked why Khairy refused to comment on the matter before suggesting that the Umno Youth chief was worried and “trapped by emotions” now that the police report was lodged by his own deputy.
“Or, perhaps he is deliberately allowing the public to speculate, now that the report wouldn’t be made without his knowledge?” the blogger queried.
Meanwhile, senior journalist blogger Datuk A. Kadir Jasin, known as a staunch critic of Najib had considered Khairul Azwan’s move as merely a tool to flatter Umno leaders.
The blogger wrote, regardless of the intentions, the Umno Youth deputy chief may pave the way for Zeti, Gani and Abu Kassim to expose all of the controversies facing the ruling government.
“I would like to thank Khairul Azwan, as for his police report, the three renowned figures who he had been accused will get the chance to testify against 1MDB, the SRC International Sdn Bhd, and the Saudi royals’ ‘donation’, all of which had been kept as secrets before,” the blogger chided.
Another prominent blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin had his own twist on the matter, and wrote that the Umno Youth deputy chief had “set up a trap that doubled as a pre-emptive strike” that had shocked Zeti, Gani and Abu Kassim.
“Khairul and his lawyer are on a standby and are waiting for one or all of them to sue.
“Once they sue and this case goes to court, a lot of shit is going to hit the fan,” the blogger wrote.
Police had yesterday responded and announced that the Umno Youth deputy chief will be summoned at anytime to assist the investigation pertaining to his report.
