KUALA LUMPUR – Oct 5, 2016: Prominent bloggers Datuk Ahirudin Attan of Rocky’s Bru and Zakhir Mohamed of BigDog have refuted allegations by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad that they are being paid for supporting Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
They responded to Dr Mahathir’s allegations in heir latest blog posts.
Earlier last week, Dr Mahathir in his blog post lambasted the ruling government’s “propaganda machinery” and had equated Najib’s administration to the Nazi regime.
Dr Mahathir had labelled those who are supporting Najib as “Little Goebbels”, in reference to Joseph Goebbels, the leader of propaganda machinery during the Nazi regime’s era in Gemany.
He chided Ahirudin and Zakhir whom he accused of being “paid” and that their writings “are to be put in the trash.”
Ahirudin in his recent blog post wrote: “You can tell that the Old Man (Dr Mahathir) was fuming mad when he wrote Propaganda (28 Sept). This blog was mentioned in the posting, rather unkindly.
“References to Goebbels and of being bought, etc. Of course, I had done nothing to Dr Mahathir Mohamad or his family to deserve such wrath.”
In a separate blog post, Ahirudin also wrote: “The fact that the Old Man had to take matters into his own hands and ‘whack’ Najib’s ‘Little Goebbels’ on his own blog means he could not wait for his own top cyber warriors (and A. Kadir Jasin, Jebat Must Die, and Syed Akbar Ali are up there, at least in my book they are) to do the dirty work for him.”
Zakhir in his response wrote that those who have different opinions than the former prime minister are “tantamount to disloyalty and damnation by him.”
“It is his words against us whether or not we became Dr Mahathir’s dis-loyalists and were bought over to go after him instead. However, what is certain like his many allegations against the prime minister and his colleagues, there were no evidence presented by him that we sold him out.
“What is glaring about him (Dr Mahathir) is that he expects every person who had served him before to be continuously loyal to him regardless all the contradictions he does, what position he takes and even the about turns and the lines he drew, but eventually crosses,” the blogger wrote in his latest blog post.
Dr Mahathir’s remarks had also caught the attention of prominent anonymous blogger, A Voice of “Another Brick in The Wall.”
In a posting, the blogger claimed that the former prime minister had in the past pulled the same antics against several bloggers who had worked for him, under the supervision of the former Mentri Besar of Selangor, Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo.
“Khir Toyo’s boys had been big supporters and activists for Mahathir throughout ‘Reformasi’. They not only silently assisted his campaign to bring Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi down, but even financially assisted his son’s (Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir) who was struggling in the 2008’s general election campaign.
“All these are not appreciated when he need to lend his son, Mukhriz a hand. Well, there are many more examples,” the blogger wrote.
