BUTTERWORTH — Aug. 11, 2020: Betty Chew, the wife of former Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng, has alleged that the charges against them are intended to destroy their marriage.

Chew went further as to claim that her husband’s political rivals have proven to be willing to use this tactic against anyone who displeases them.

“They want to break him (Lim), they want to break my relationship with him, they want to break our family… this is very cruel,” Chew said as she reiterated her innocence and vowed to stand by her husband.

“God is watching and one day, you will get in return for what you’ve done to our family,” she added.

Lim, who was at the press conference at his Bagan service centre, again described the charges against Chew and businesswoman Phang Li Koon as politically motivated, arguing also that it was nonsensical to charge Chew over her professional fees as a lawyer.

Lim has been charged with three counts of graft since last week.

Today he was charged with using his position as chief minister to obtain gratification of RM372,009.00 for his wife while Phang was charged with abetting him.

Chew was charged with three counts of receiving proceeds from an unlawful activity amounting to RM372,009.
