KUALA LUMPUR — April 18, 2018: While others may see it differently, 1Malaysia Development Berhad Chief Executive Arul Kanda Kandasamy is certain that interactions he has had with those who attended the roadshow throughout the country have managed to get his message across.
During a visit to The Mole yesterday, Arul hailed the approach as being effective, especially as evident by the recent reactions from opposition politicians who had been highly critical of 1MDB.
“This is very unfortunate but it is also representative of how the opposition conducts their politics, which is really politics of hatred. It is not about issues, it is not about facts and it is not about the reality of 1MDB,” he remarked.
Arul considers the personal attacks on him as attempts to shape the perception about 1MDB using hatred.
“Today the company is stable and its debt has been reduced. So from that perspective, I can hold my head up high. The opposition can say whatever they want. It doesn’t bothered me because the facts and the results are there.”
Arul explained that the objective of the roadshow was to address the 1MDB issue in specific areas where there was demand for more information.
“As you know, 1MDB has a lot of details and complexities. So having direct interaction helps us to address any questions and inquiries on the spot,” he said.
Arul has so far conducted 18 sessions attended in total by about 15,000 people.
He expressed confidence that his explanations would lead to a bigger audience as those who attended would have shared the information with friends and family.
“And at the same time, we have a Facebook live so that although at the ceramah there might be just a thousand people, frequently through the Facebook live, we got 20,000 over views,” he said, adding that recordings of the sessions have also been released and gone viral in cyberspace.
Arul didn’t see that it was too difficult to explain the 1MDB issue, except for the fact that the opposition has used it for their political agenda.
He has this to tell the public:
“You can drive to Jalan Tun Razak and see the TRX where the towers are coming up, where HSBC has confirmed it will have its head of office and Prudential, one of the largest insurance companies in the world, will also be there. So the evidence is clear for the rakyat to see. This is what the opposition does not want you to know.”
