KUALA LUMPUR — July 12, 2019: A political secretary of PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has accused Pribumi Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir of depicting his boss as a power hungry politician.
R. Suresh Kumar, in his statement today, claimed that Mukhriz had thrown some subtle jibes at Anwar in an interview with Nikkei Asian Review yesterday, when the Kedah mentri besar remarked that “unlike some, he is not too ambitious”.
Believing that Mukhriz was dissing at his boss, Suresh asked Mukhriz asked him to respect the alliance and understanding among Pakatan Harapan component parties.
“We at PKR are saddened and shocked with what Mukhriz said, that he isn’t as ambitious as certain individuals who made it their mission to be the number one leader of the country.
“Although Muhkriz did not mention Anwar’s name, everyone can tell that the interview had depicted Anwar as becoming increasingly greedy to be prime minister,” said Suresh.
Mukhriz had also stated that the contentious two-year timeframe for Anwar’s succession was neither inked or verbally agreed upon.
“There was no agreement that it has to be two years. There may have been suggestions like that but nothing was stated on paper or in a verbal agreement,” said Mukhriz.
However, Mukhriz had admitted that Anwar’s position to succeed his father Mahathir as the next PM was clear.
“My sense is that since the majority believes that Anwar is the appointed heir, he (Mahathir) should be given enough time to do what he needs to do,” said Mukhriz.
