KUALA LUMPUR — March 23, 2017: Kelantan’s Tan Sri Annuar Musa today announced his withdrawal from contesting as president of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) to be held this Saturday.
He said his decision was made without coercion from or discussion with any party.
“I did not discuss this with anyone because I did not want to be influenced by anyone, not even my wife,” he told a press conference at Parliament today. Annuar is the Ketereh Member of Parliament.
However, he will be attending the association’s congress on the same day.
Annuar said his decision was because of his respect for the Tunku Mahkota of Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, and hoped he would win the post uncontested.
“TMJ must be given the opportunity to do something for Malaysian football, and the commitment and earnestness he has shown will be an important asset to FAM,” he said.
Annuar said that last November 16 he had sent a short message to TMJ, proposing that he take the post of president, and gave his word that he would declare TMJ the uncontested winner.
“Today I am keeping my word… I pray that the long-awaited changes which have been promised will become a reality.” — Bernama
