KUALA LUMPUR — January 31, 2017: Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) today announced the immediate suspension of Tan Sri Annuar Musa as its chairman and that of Pelaburan Mara Berhad (PMB).

Mara council member Datuk Dr. Yusof Yacob said the unanimous decision was made at a special meeting he chaired.

The suspension is to enable Mara’s internal auditors to look into several matters, including the sponsorship by PMB and Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) of the Kelantan football team.

“We do not know how long the suspension would be necessary. We hope the matter can be expedited so that we know the actual situation. We cannot just depend on what’s being talked about.

“We want the suspension of the two positions to enable an independent investigation without the intervention or influence of Tan Sri (Annuar),” he said.

During the suspension, Annuar cannot have access to all information and instructions pertaining to his position as  chairman.

Also, all duties of Annuar will be handled by Yusof. This has been agreed to by Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

Annuar, who is on a working visit to New Zealand, said he was unaware of the special meeting but will accept the
decision of the council made today.

He is in New Zealand on official Mara matters, one of which is to attend a meeting of Kolej Yayasan Saad and Queenstown Recreational College of Otago University and is scheduled to return to Malaysia on Thursday. — Bernama
