KOTA KINABALU, Sept 19 2018 : Datuk Seri Anifah Aman confirmed today that he has quit Umno, the second former minister to have left the party after Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed who resigned yesterday.
The MP for Kimanis, who was the foreign minister in the previous Barisan Nasional government, said his resignation from the party he had served for over 25 years was effective immediately.
“Yes, I have quit Umno. It is with immediate effect,” he said to Bernama.
Asked for the reason of his resignation, Anifah said: “I will call a press conference soon on the matter.”
Anifah defended his parliamentary seat with a majority of 156 votes in the 14th general election in May in a three-cornered contest.
Mustapa, who is the MP for Jeli and state assemblyman for Air Lanas in Kelantan, announced his resignation from Umno yesterday. He was the international trade and industry minister in the previous government. – Bernama
