KUALA LUMPUR – September 10, 2019: AirAsia Foundation and REXKL will celebrate Malaysia Day on Sept 16 with a free-admission festival titled Made-in-Malaysia.
To be held at REXKL (formerly the iconic Rex cinema), the event on Saturday and Sunday aims to highlight what makes the country a harmonious multi-racial melting pot.
There will be over 20 exciting cultural activities for attendees including martial art demonstrations, calligraphy lessons and cooking classes.
Headlining the talk sessions are Food Ambassador of Tourism Malaysia Datuk Chef Wan, film director Tan Yew Leong, musician and composer Pete Teo and documentary-maker Indrani Kopal.
AirAsia Foundation Executive Director Yap Mun Ching said that the event is an endeavour to promote unity among Malaysians, and showcasing the country as a multi-faceted gem to be enjoyed by locals and visitors.
“This festival is about celebrating diversity while strengthening unity. By promoting different cultures and folstering a sense of community, we hope to create an environment whereby all Malaysians can thrive and succeed,” said Yap.
REXKL is now a multicultural creative and entrepreneurial hub housing ‘Destination: GOOD’, a flagship social enterprise hub by AirAsia Foundation. It currently retails more than 400 responsibly and ethically produced goods from more than 30 social enterprises across ASEAN.
The hub aims to be an exchange that fosters collaboration between ASEAN social entrepreneurs and community-based enterprises.
